Learn More About Mahasiddha's Foundation Program

Foundation Program

Students who've been attending our weekly drop-in classes are welcome to check out the Foundation Program anytime but soon will be an especially good time to do so, as on March 3rd the Foundation Program class will start in a new section of study. The Foundation Program (FP) is a unique structured study program that enables us to gain deeper understanding and experience of Buddhist teachings and to develop a regular meditation practice. It is ideal for those who have a general understanding of Buddhism and wish to learn more. FP meets twice a week during term times with breaks in between and a longer break in the summer. Students are requested to enroll for a section of the text and commit to attend all the classes.

Through regular teachings and meditation, systematic study and group discussion the Foundation Program offers deep support for your spiritual life. In essence it is the same training followed by spiritual practitioners in an unbroken lineage dating back to Buddha Shakyamuni. Its special quality is that we can gain authentic experience without abandoning our modern lifestyle. By studying on this program we will gain great confidence in meditation - from basic techniques for overcoming our everyday problems, to practices leading to unsurpassed happiness and permanent inner peace.

To see if FP is right for you, we recommend you attend and observe three classes (free of charge) before making a commitment. You can observe Foundation Program any Thursday Night 6-8pm or Sunday afternoon 4:30-6:30pm starting on March 3rd. Please e-mail us at info@meditationinoregon.org to let us know you are coming or if you would like more info. To observe Foundation Program, it is required that you already regularly attend the weekly drop-in classes on Tuesday nights, Friday nights or Sunday mornings.

Kids Welcome on Sunday Mornings:  Dharma for Kids

Dharma for Kids

Kids' class is held at the same time as Prayers for World Peace (Sunday mornings, 10:30-noon), usually taught by senior student April Waters.

While parents enjoy meditation, kids explore spiritual themes. Activities include arts and crafts, story time, and spiritual topics. Parents are welcome to stay with their children or relax and enjoy the adult class inside the gompa.

Starting Again Soon - PCC Meditation Classes in Beaverton

Monday Nights in Beaverton

Starting at the end of March we will again offer a meditation class at the Beaverton Willow Creek Campus of Portland Community College. Between March 29th and April 19th the series will be "Transforming Conflict and Difficulty". In this series we will learn different methods taught by Buddha to help us overcome the anger in our mind. There will be a second series offered from April 26th - May 24th. This will be called "Letting Go of Our Bad Habits." In this series we will look at various methods that Buddha taught to help us understand where bad habits and addictions come from. We will also look at the methods he gave to help people work with bad habits and additions. Very similar to our other weekly classes, each will include two guided meditations and a talk on how to use Buddha's teachings to find inner peace and an opportunity to ask questions.

Click here to be forwarded to the PCC website for registration information for the first series, and here for registration info for the second series.

Note that there are two PCC classes under the each series heading. The Tuesday night SW Portland class refers to our regular Tuesday night class held here at the center. The Tuesday night class in Portland never requires a registration, but the Monday night class on the PCC campus does.
